STANLEY, N.D. ? A Payson man was critically injured Tuesday morning in an oil field explosion outside of Stanley, North Dakota.
Todd Kinkaid, 28, was injured when a tank exploded Tuesday at 1 a.m. on a Frontier Drilling rig he was working on. Witnesses said they saw Kinkaid engulfed in flames before they could get to him.
Kinkaid was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., to be treated for third-degree burns over 70 percent of his body. There were no other injuries in the accident.
"He is always there when you need him and would do anything to help out friends and family in need," said Jacey Roby, a close friend of Kinkaid's. "He is an amazing person and is strong, so we are hoping for the best."
Our thoughts and prayers are with him right now.
?James Lynch
Roby and other friends have set up an account at Give Forward to help with Kinkaid's medical expenses.*
James Lynch, with Frontier Drilling, said the cause of the accident is under investigation. It is unknown if the explosion was caused by equipment or human error. The rig will be shut down for at least the next two days while the investigation takes place.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with him right now," Lynch said of Kinkaid.
